Dundee Airport is operated by Dundee City Council and is situated on the north shore of the River Tay between the shore and Riverside Road (A85).

The airport became operational in 1963, originally it had a 900 metre grass runway. A new tarmac runway 1,100 metres long was constructed on top of the grass one in the 1970s and in the 1990s extended to 1,400 metres. In the 1970s the fire station and control tower were moved to the front of the airport on Riverside Road to the west of the terminal building.

 

 

There are 3 watches comprising of 6 people. Cover is provided from 5-45am to 10pm. The rota is:-

3 days Early shift                 4 days Back shift                  3 days Off

4 days Early shift                 3 days Back shift                  4 days Off.

From the 1st December 2007 Highland and Islands Airports Limited took over the running of Dundee Airport from Dundee City Council.

 

Had MHM963L Thorncroft/Carmichael Crash Tender at some point.

 

Seven of HIAL's 11 airports have water rescue provision, including rescue crafts, a jet ski and a mud rescue team. They are at Sumburgh, Barra, Benbecula, Dundee, Islay, Kirkwall and Stornoway.
