Fireman dies
A member of the volunteer fire unit
at Lochcarron died at the weekend while tackling a blaze near Stromeferry. He
was 43-year-old Calum MacKenzie, of 5 Park Road, Lochcarron.
The fire was spotted on Saturday evening and firemen from Kyle and Lochcarron
were joined by forestry workers to prevent the flames spreading to nearby
plantations. After about three hours the Lochcarron unit were ready to leave
when it was noticed that Mr MacKenzie, who had earlier complained of
breathlessness, was missing. His body was found at the spot where he had last
been seen.
