Fireman dies while at work

A 43 year old fireman died at the scene of a minor fire on Saturday night.
Sub Officer James Boyd, of 197 Prestwick Road, is thought to have sustained a fatal heart attack while attending a fire call at the Banjo Jackson’s Restaurant, Boswell Park, Ayr, on Saturday at 11-30 p.m.
A senior officer at Ayr Fire Station said Mr Boyd was in charge of a back-up appliance which had been called to the restaurant.
He had climbed onto the roof above the premises to remove an air duct cover when he collapsed.
His colleagues applied heart massage and mouth to mouth resuscitation. An ambulance was called to the scene where Mr Boyd was pronounced dead.
Mr Boyd worked with Strathclyde Fire Brigade for over 18 years.

Shock

He leaves a wife, Patricia, and two teenage children, Elizabeth (15), and Steven (13).
Mrs Boyd, who works as a domestic assistant at Heathfield Hospital, Ayr, said she last saw her husband at 10 p.m. as she walked home from work.
She said: “He passed by in an appliance and gave a wave.
“He never complained of feeling unwell. It was a terrible shock to see his colleagues on my doorstep at 1-10 a.m.
“They didn’t have to say a thing. I knew something terrible had happened.”
