Fireman James Dolon was killed at Camperdown works on the 4th of October, 1939.

A.F.S. MAN LOSES LIFE AT FIRE
ROOF FALL FIGHTING JUTE WORKS BLAZE

A Dundee man’s National Service was brought tragically to a close yesterday when he was killed in a fall from a roof at a fire at Camperdown Works (Jute Industries, Ltd.), Lochlee.
He was James Dolon, 17 Lawrence Street, a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service since April 1938.
Donlon along with Deputy Firemaster Johnson, was lowering hose from the roof as the fire was almost extinguished. They were standing on a two foot wide coping, and had lowered one length of hose and had a second length to the rope.
In turning Donlon’s foot slipped, he lost his balance, and fell into the courtyard, a drop of about 25 feet. He was killed almost immediately.
