Notes

With Tomintoul at 1165ft (350m), it's the highest Highlands village and some say it's the highest village in Scotland, so  this makes Tomintoul the highest Fire Station in Scotland. (pronounced Tom-in towel)

Tomintoul Fire Station Opened

Tomintoul’s new fire station which was officially opened on Thursday is the 20th new station built by the North Eastern Fire Area Joint Board. It is the second in Banffshire, the first one being opened at Buckie in April.
The new Tomintoul station cost approximately £9,000, and is a one appliance station staffed by retained fireman.
A really up to date station, it has as well as the tender bay and offices, a well appointed recreation room, kitchen and spray baths, and toilet facilities. And within the next few months the fire tender will be delivered.
Firemaster W. H. Woods, Aberdeen, introduced Provost George Wood. Portsoy, chairman of the board. Provost Wood welcomed and introduced Councillor George Roberts, a former chairman of the board, who performed the official opening.
When Councillor Roberts pressed the button and declared the station open, the siren sounded and the appliance turned out.
A vote of thanks to Councillor Roberts was given by Col. T. R. Gordon-Duff, Drummuir , convener of Banff County Council. The company of about fifty were entertained to afternoon tea.
