The station was originally built as one bay and offices to right in the 1960's (67?) and an extension was built and Officially Opened on 8/4/1995 by Councillor D. N. Cameron Chairperson Highland & Islands Fire Board, there is a plaque in station. This extension was to the right of the offices.

With the new brigade structure introduced in the summer of 2003 the 3 Divisions were re-organised into 2 Commands North and South, Fortrose was put into North Command. Call signs remained the same.

Fortrose had a call sign of B2 in The Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, this was changed to S32, the new National Call Sign, when the Control at Inverness closed on 6/12/2016 and moved to Dundee.
