In 1939 the town of Tranent purchased an Albion Kerr appliance which served until 1962.

June 1965, Fire Committee were discussing an extension to the station.

5. There was submitted report, dated 10th November 1966, by the Firemaster intimating that the contractors engaged on the reconstruction of the Tranent Fire Station had informed him that the present engine room at the fire station would require to be vacated early in 1967 for two months to allow work to be carried out in that area.
The Firemaster reported that the owner of the Heugh Garage, which was within a short distance of the present Fire Station, had offered to house the fire appliance at a rent of £20 per month and the Firemaster recommended that the offer be accepted.
The Joint Committee resolved to approve the recommendation by the Firemaster.
(South Eastern Fire Area Joint Committee Minutes of meeting of 6th December 1966. Page 134.)

In the Integrated Risk Management Plan 2005/2010 Tranent Fire station will close when the new station in the Wallyford area opens as it will no longer be required. This new station will be a Community Fire Station. Musselburgh Fire Station will be closed and relocated to the Wallyford area where the new station will have one Pump and one Incident Support Unit, relocated from Marionville when it closes. This proposed move didn't take place.

Tranent had a call sign of 64 in Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, this was changed to J20, the new National Call Sign on 3/5/2017.
