CLARKSTON FIRE STATION

Clarkston Fire Station was built to replace the long standing station at Darnley, so much a part of the tradition of East Renfrewshire. Construction started in June, 1989, and was completed in June, 1970, twelve weeks ahead of schedule.
The station was designed by the County Architect of Renfrew County and constructed by John Dickie & Son Ltd., Thornliebank, on a several works contract basis at a cost of £116,986.0.0d.
The siting of the new Fire Station and the external appearance of the buildings had to be carefully considered in view of the location of the site in close proximity to a high class residential area, Suitable landscaping and screening were stipulated in the planning conditions.
Externally the building is finished in facing brick and white rendering with a featured timber facia at roof level. The two storey construction adopted was fairly simple, being load bearing brickwork supporting a precast concrete floor and the roof was constructed of steel beams, woodwool slabs, screed and mineral felt. The two bay appliance area is constructed in in situ concrete and the tower in brickwork.
The station contains the usual offices, recreation room, lecture room, dormitory, workshops and garage and the internal finishes specified have been selected to ensure minimal maintenance costs combined with an attractive appearance. A Breathing Apparatus training building is part of the station complex.

The appliance is a Dennis Water Tender with a four hundred gallon tank.

The Station Establishment is        1 Station Officer (Residential)
                                                          4 Sub-Officers
