COLMONELL’S NEW FIRE STATION

Colmonell’s new fire station, which is to be erected on part of the playpark, is to cost in the region of £1300, members of the South Western Fire Area Joint Committee were told at their meeting in Ayr on Friday.
The cost of the new prefabricated building is to be over £550 and other work such as removing hedges and the laying of drains is to cost approximately £745.
(The Ayrshire Post, July 20, 1956. Page 9)

Garage, accomodation was increased with provision of Portakabin in 1995.
A new garage was built and occupied in March 2002.
When the new appliance room was being built the appliance and tunics were kept in a commercial garage at Clachanton Farm, Colmonell and the office was still in Kirkhill Crescent. On receipt of a call out the first man at the farm had to use the appliance radio to contact M2GX to get the details of the incident. No appliances were allowed to stand by at Colmonell during this time. (12 weeks from November 2001 to January 2002)

When the new call signs were being implemented in the WEST SDA over a 7 week period beginning 31/8/2020 doing 1 LSO Area per week, Colmonell was changed from R13 to G32.

Colmonell. The new part time single bay prefabricated Fire Station at Craigneil Road was occupied on 28th November, 1957, the old premises at Main Street being vacated on that date. To comply with financial restrictions it was decided that the original provisions for the lining of the building be deleted. At a later stage, however, in order to protect the appliances from frost and to provide some degree of comfort to personnel during the winter months, the building was lined with plasterboard treated with a finishing coat of plaster.
(South Western Area Fire Brigade Firemaster’s Annual Report 1957.)

Colmonell. Minor repair work had to be carried out to the boundary fence at the rear of the Station.
(South Western Area Fire Brigade Firemaster’s Annual Report 1960.)

Colmonell. The housing scheme area adjoining the fire station has been flooded from time to time and permission was given to the County Surveyor to erect a small earth barrier within the boundary of the station ground so that flood water would in future be diverted to a nearby surface water drain inlet. Adjustments were also made in the cupboard and workbench facilities at this station.
(South Western Area Fire Brigade Firemaster’s Annual Report 1962.)

Colmonell. New timber appliance room doors and a side entrance door were made and fitted by the maintenance staff. Cracked sections of asbestos sheeting were also replaced.
(South Western Area Fire Brigade Firemaster’s Annual Report 1966.)

Colmonell. Defective plasterwork was cut out and replaced.
