The Barskimming Mill burnt down in the late 1800s. Link to story.
Present Station opened 1963, prior to that Fire Station was in Barskimming Road. This
was a munitions shed, brick and corrugated roof. Before that a garage owned by George
McMillan in Kilmarnock Road was commandeered by which I am led to believe was Ayr County
Council, to house an appliance. The garage has changed hands a few times but is still
standing. The one in Barskimming Road is now demolished. Regarding Ayr County Council,
this was before the National Fire Service.
