FIRE CADETS

2016 Fire Cadet Units are at Campbeltown, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock. They are open to kids aged 13 to 18.

THE OLD FIRE CADETS

The Fire Cadets are open to 16 to 19 year olds. This is a Modern apprenticeship lasting two years at the end of which successful Cadets will gain an SVQ level 3 qualification in Direct Training and Support. It does not guarantee the cadet a job as a Firefighter. Cadets work a 35 hour week Monday to Friday.

The move has been made possible by the successful conclusion of the latest two year Fire Cadet programme, which was based at Yorkhill and saw 17 cadets graduate to become wholetime firefighters, with one joining our workshops.  14/10/2011

YOUNG FIRE FIGHTERS

SFR’s Young Firefighter Scheme celebrates its 10th Anniversary
The Young Firefighter Scheme aims to engage young people aged 13-18 by providing a fire service training programme linked to recognised accreditation. The young firefighters attend their local community fire station on a regular basis and take part in a number of SFR related activities including drills, first aid and fire safety. The programme is staffed by volunteers who encourage and support the young people to become positive role models.

To celebrate the anniversary, Dumbarton Young Firefighter Unit is hosting a drill competition at Dumbarton Community Fire Station this Saturday, 30th July, between 1pm – 5pm. Dumbarton youngsters will compete against young firefighters from Kilmarnock and Campbeltown.

The competition will test the skills and teamwork of participants and will consist of the three elements of hose running, working with ladders and carrying out a search and1 rescue drill.

Good luck to everyone involved and may the best team win.
