WATER CARRIERS
There are four Water Carriers in the brigade, two purpose built white Scanias and two
red Scania prime movers which normally carry a Bulk Liquid Tank (there are also two BA
Training Pods for use at retained stations). All four vehicles belong to the Brigade
Training School at Cheapside House and are kept at the back of Cowcaddens yard. There are
used primarily for LGV driver training but when the need arises they are utilised as Water
Carriers.
They were fitted with radios and a blue light, and have recently been fitted with extra
blue flashers and audible warnings (Nov 2001). They are crewed by whoever is available,
usually its personnel from a local station although sometimes it can be staff from
the Brigade Training School.
Normally used to augment water supplies at forest fires they are also moved into areas
where there is a fault in the water mains that will take days to fix.
