MILITARY FIRE BRIGADES

Admiralty Fire Service. Originally a police/fire service set up to protect RN installations in the UK and worldwide. With the closure of RN Dockyards overseas the service was disbanded, save for the service in Gibraltar.(1977) 
In the UK fire cover for HM Dockyards became the responsibility of the relevant Local Authority Fire Brigade. For fire prevention duties (inspections and advisory) the Navy Department Fire Prevention Service was founded. 

DEFENCE FIRE SERVICE

Formed at the beginning of April, 1990 with the amalgamation of the Navy Department Fire Prevention Service, Army Fire Service and Air Force Department Fire Service along with the RAF Fire Service.

The MOD's fire fighting and fire prevention establishment, both in the UK and overseas, is bigger than one might imagine, with 169 officers, 3,100 firefighters, 140 stations, and nearly 500 vehicles. Over 30 of its stations are located overseas, protecting bases in places like Hong Kong, Gibraltar, Belize and Crypus.

Training is now centred at the the former RAF Fire School at RAF Manston in Kent.

DEFENCE FIRE RISK MANAGEMENT ORGANISATION 

The DFMRO is split up into four areas. Scotland comes under the North Area which also includes the north of England above the Midlands? This is further split into four Groups of which Scotland is Group A.
